An animal rescue group based in California called Hope For Paws were on a routine rescue when they heard about a family of dogs living under a shipping container. They already rescued two other dogs from the river and were in the car.
Despite that, they continued to the shipping container location to investigate. They figured that the car had enough room for another rescue.
When they arrived at the location, they found the puppies and the mom living under a shipping container. They were too far underneath that they couldn’t reach the dogs without special equipment. And, because the dogs weren’t socialized, they wouldn’t come out towards the rescuers voluntarily out of fear.
The rescue volunteers had to drive back to their office to drop off the other dogs they rescued. And, also to grab the specialized equipment they need to retrieve the dogs under the container. The drive took them three hours, and by the time they came back to the location to rescue the puppies and their mom, it was already getting dark.
One of the rescuers had a chance to grab one of the puppies, which prompted the mom to follow. The first puppy they got out was covered in thousands of fleas, and they also suspected that all the other pups suffered the same infestation.
The rescuers also observed that the gums were very pale, which made them suspect that the dogs had anemia. It’s unlikely that the puppies would survive without any help.
The other puppies were still under the shipping container, and they had to use a net attached to a pole to reach them. One by one, they were able to pull all the puppies out. In total, there were four puppies and the mom.
After getting the dogs out from under the shipping container, the rescuers took them to the car where they were driven back to the Hope For Paws facility to get properly checked and treated.
All of the puppies enjoyed a warm, medicated bath to treat the flea infestations. They were also fed, and probably for the first time in their life, they had a warm and clean bed to sleep in.
The family was taken to their foster home the next day and now living the best life they ever had. The puppies, as well as their mom, were so happy living in their foster home. They are now waiting for a forever home and a loving family to adopt them. Here’s a video showing the remarkable rescue of this family of dogs.
